Book Club

In January 2022, we began One True Book Club, with the goal of reading, discussing, and enjoying many of the books Hemingway read during his transformative years in 1920s Paris. Many of the books on our list come from his own lending library cards at Shakespeare and Company, the bookstore and library run by Sylvia Beach, a revolutionary bookshop owner who first published James Joyce’s groundbreaking Ulysses all those years ago.

The first book up on our list–for January and February–is Ivan Turgenev’s The Torrents of Spring!

Hemingway’s 1925 lending library card from Shakespeare and Company showing The Torrents of Spring checked out.

Afterwards, we turn attention to Capt. Joshua Slocum’s maritime memoir, Sailing Alone Around the World.

Whereas our regular line-up of podcast episodes will always remain free to listeners, these extra book club episodes will be supported through listener contributions on our Patreon page. Patrons at all tier levels–which are named after some of Hemingway’s favorite Paris cafés–will receive access to our book club episodes, access to live stream events after we finish each book, and the ability to vote on the next book in our lineup.

Thanks so much for supporting us by listening to One True Podcast, and for considering joining One True Book Club on Patreon.
